Visiting HMS Victory at Portsmouth was one of the more memorable visits I made with my youngest brother not long before he died. It’s one of six sites of the National Museum of the Royal Navy across the UK.
You can visit online at https://www.nmrn.org.uk/index.php/. Take advantage of the guide sheets for Researching Naval Personnel, Identifying People & Ships and more.
I visited there a few years ago. I went because I had traced a neighbour’s ancestor to the Navy and Portsmouth. It was fun visiting it, and I was able, on the same UK trip, to find a wonderful paiinting by a local artist for the Victory, Nelsons’ s flagship during ghte batttle of Trafalager. The Navy had not been able to justify trashing the ship and it had been a sort of floating supply vessel. My neighbour’s ancestor had been a member of the ship’s company during that time. Cheers, BT
